Uncle Giuseppe's

This is a great new-ish grocery store (mostly food, keep in mind) on Route 111 in Smithtown. It's been around for a few months, but I was only recently able to get over there. They have lots of fresh produce (except for mushrooms) and a great selection of different meats, including prime cuts at not too outrageous prices. They even have fresh rabbit. We got a couple last week.

The only bad thing so far is that, at least lately, on Saturday's they have some annoying singer belting out songs from the 40's or some damn time. And it is LOUD! Really LOUD!

On their bags they list a website at http://www.unclegiuseppes.com, but I can't open it.

Never deal with the cashier Brian if you risk shopping at this snob-mart. He is a bonified moron who cannot tell 4 red apples do not equal over three pounds in weight. He is also rude and callous, not to mention working at the speed of molasses while ringing up customers.

If you try to correct them in their calculating errors they get very short, rude and snippy. They lure you in with sale prices but then do not tell you you need a "member's card' to their outfit until after your purchases have been tallied AND THEY DO NOT HAVE THE DECENCY TO EXTEND YOU THE SALE PRICES even if you sign up with their nonsense membership.

Stay away from this place, at least until they come clean and rename it Uncle Gestapo's.

This criminal front of a grocer claims to support the troops, and its no wonder; with the over inflated prices they charge these idiots could fund the whole damn war.

Buyer Beware. These people are outright crooks.

Obviously all of you with the negative comments don’t know the difference between real food and stop and shop crap. They have the freshest produce and best deli display I have ever seen! The people who work there are extra nice and always seem happy. If you have a problem with spending some money on quality then get your damn food stamps and go to walbaums! This is not a coupon cutting store. Yes they do have GREAT sales….might I mention LOBSTER for $6.99 lb…..where the hell can you get that??? Stop being cheap and looking for deals all of the time. I think whoever came up with this store is a mastermind. To the rest of you who are classless and nothing good to say….GO SOMEWHERE ELSE AND SHOP!!!! See how you will be treated somewhere else….also the cleanliness is out of this world. I would eat off their floor. And enough with the mafia stereotypes…. Get over it ITALIANS KNOW HOW TO WORK EAT AND RUN A BUSINESS BEST!!!!

I don't see how your blind, one sided affection for the overpriced drivel of Uncle Giuseppe's of Smithtown is anything less than blatant lie.

No one likes getting ripped off when it happens to them. And false advertising is false advertising, regardless of the nationality of the vendor, so don't be so quick to defend these liars and crooks.

That is, at least, unless you are simply one who likes to think that if you pay their snooty prices that that somehow makes your more of a food expert then the rest of us.

Get over yourself and grow your own G-D tomatoes.

Peace and love to all but you.

Is there ANY reality to the rumor that there will be an UNCLE GIUSEPPE'S going into the soon-to-be FORMER Stop N Shop on Rt. 112 ?

At 8:00 AM, Blogger Unknown said...

As to some of the issues discussed here...it is pricey, BUT, like anywhere else, there are things, comparatively, inexpensive there.

In addition, one is going there, expecting things to be a little more, because, well, MOST of the stuff isnt anywhere else ! So...with this, I say, it's NICE to treat yourself.

Like ANY store, you go to it for something special, NOT everything, because people just don't shop for food and whatever, in just one store, anymore ! If you go for things that a STOP N SHOP are good for, general food need items, prices are usually BETTER somewhere else. Things like butter, milk, white bread, etc...

You go to places like this to pick up that something special thing...and this is the PERFECT place !

The store is clean, the, sales good but don't buy the "special store made" items. The sausage was gross filled with nothing but salt. It was supposed to contain greens with mozzarella; what a disappointment!!! LOVE THE MUSIC.

Well, nobody's perfect...so sorry about your bad experience with the sausage filled with salt.

I am VERY wary of stuff like that, anyway.

What I was impressed with, at "Uncle Giuseppe's", was the variety of stuffed chicken...both the house brand and, especially the BELL & EVANS chicken.

If you haven't tried this specific brand, EVEN getting a whole bird, cut up for cooking, seasoned to your own taste, the taste of this chicken is VERY distinctive, and very tastey WITH NO SEASONING OF ANY KIND !

The next time you go there, or ANYWHERE, for ANY stuffed meats, do some research, and go with your own instincts.

To me, a lot of this "special food" isn't authentic and a product of some Dr. Franken-Cooking GONE MAD !

Just because it's out in the rack for sale, doesn't mean it's good, right ?

For me, I like it just cut up, and plain, with salt and pepper.

You can go too far, and well, the results aren't going to be appealing no matter WHERE you get it !

I use to work for uncle giuseppes for a while but found a better paying job. While the front of the store may be clean, that is about it. The back room is so disgusting and the meat and deli cases are never washed. Look at the underside of the shelves, there is mold growing all over it. I don’t think I have ever seen a health inspector. The premade food is great and most is store made but some of the fried food is just frozen food they buy and fry it up and sell it for 7.99 a pound. There so called homemade cookies and cakes come from a cookie warehouse that they just repackage in new contains and put an uncle Giuseppe’s sticker on it. There soups come in tubs that they open and repackage again putting a homemade uncle giuseppes stickers on it. The best is they sell mini pigs in a blanket and bagel bites (bagels w/ cheese and sause) that they buy actual bagel bites packs that sell normal for .99 in the frozen food section and put 12 in a tray, wrap it up and sell it for 6.99. Some of the produce is real well prices but a lot of general stock is over priced. They do have really expense meat and don’t let them fool you, it is the same quality meat that stop n shop and all other stores have, but they do have some hard to find meats available. The deli counter is too expensive for me to shop at. Most of there cold cuts are boars head and they are all 9 a pound, which are $2-3 more per pound then I pay for my BH cold cuts. They say you are paying for the experience and service but to me it seems like it is just a smaller version on stop n shop and walbaums but the differences is that I have to go to another store to finish my shopping I really see no difference. Just my two cents.

i found uncle g's last night while driving around. all the people who have problems with it can just go to pathmark and quit their bitching.

i loved the music and the "experience" cos it made me want to dance in the aisles. but i didn't cos i already looked like a fool scampering around with a smile plastered on my face.

Extremely overpriced and the men that work there are a bunch a pigs!

I don't know what all the fuss is about. I went there and it was ok, a little pricey. Meat Farms is around the corner and the prices are much better.

Reading about the cleanliness of the store was most upsetting. The Health Dept will be informed to check into that. I also agree about the help, why not USA workers??

They want cheap help but expect customers to pay exorbinent prices. I want value for my money.

i love this place i dont know what you guys are talking about. i eat here all the time and ive never had a problem. and their prices are NOT bad - if you compare what youre GETTING to other supermarkets it's not expensive at all. if you want super cheap gross food go somewhere else, but if you want quality you go to Uncle Giuseppe's

I went there for the first time last weekend. Sadly i was disappointed. Too much of a circus for me.

Hello. My wife and I bought our house about 6 months ago. It was a foreclosure and we were able to get a great deal on it. We also took advantage of the 8K tax credit so that definitely helped. We did an extensive remodeling job and now I want to refinance to cut the term to a 20 or 15 year loan. Does anyone know any good sites for mortgage information? Thanks!

Mike

Uncle Giusepees is a rip off.
They advertise items on sale and charge the full price when you get to the regsietr.
Who looks?
Three times when I got home, and checked my receipt I realized that I was overcharged. I had to go back to the store to get the difference.
Who needs the headache?
THEY RIP YOU OFF BIG TIME.
My brother-in-law as charged $12.99 a pound for a perpared food that was advertised at $8.99 a pound.
GO to the smaller Italian Deli's..their food is just as good, they are more reasonably priced and if something is on sale you are charged the sale price!

It's a wonderful place to find specialty items. Mostly the products are high quality.
However, we were disappointed with their homemade sauce (Pomodoro Filetto) and hot pork sausage..both were filled with way too much salt.
